New era: The Four Lassies

For many years, Candace, Rachel and Hannah have performed music together for various family, church and social events. Sometimes they play instruments (hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, piano and other folk instruments). But most of all, they blend their voices together in beautiful harmonies.

This year a new era has dawned: where once there were three, now there are four! Susanna joined her Mom and two older sisters in singing “Be Still, My Soul” at the annual dance recital on June 4, just before we headed west for a family trip. A few days later, when the entire company of family travelers were together in Mesa, Arizona, they sang it again. Laura captured it with her camera, and made it available online:

Be Still My Soul from Laura M. on Vimeo.

Be still my soul, the Lord is on your side
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
Leave to your God to order and provide;
In every change He faithful will remain.
Be still my soul – your best, your heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still my soul, your God will undertake
To guide the future as He has the past.
Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still my soul — the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still my soul, when dearest friends depart
And all is darkened in the vale of tears
Then shall you better know His love, His heart
Who comes to soothe your sorrow and your fears.
Be still my soul — your Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.

Be still my soul; the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still my soul — when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last!

Susanna, you sang beautifully. Welcome aboard!

And to all of my four lassies: I love the way each one of you interweaves the beauty of music and dance into our ordinary life together. Thank you for enriching my life so profoundly.

    Greetings from Wordwise Hymns. I posted an article on Katharina von Schlegel’s great hymn this morning, and enjoyed your concert. Well done! “We Rest on Thee” is another lovely hymn that uses the theme from Finlandia. If you’re not familiar with it, you can see it on the Cyber Hymnal here: http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/w/e/r/wereston.htm

    Keep singing! And God bless.
