“Pearls” are attained at great price.
Frodo once answered Gildor:
“It is said, ‘Go not to the Elves for counsel, for they will say both no and yes.’”
“Is it indeed?” laughed Gildor. “Elves seldom give unguarded advice, for advice is a dangerous gift, even from the wise to the wise, and all courses may run ill.”
Nevertheless, I’ve assembled some pearls of advice for any graduate student beginning a thesis or dissertation. Take it or leave it, as you will; the choice is yours. Yet with hopes that perhaps they may assist you in your quest, without lengthening your stay in Mordor unnecessarily, here are my “thesis pearls,” with best wishes for a safe journey:

PS: Eric Ortlund assembles an excellent string of pearls for the young evangelical scholar here.
