Index of Christmas holiday posts
Merry Christmas from Daniel Wallace and the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts:
“The ancient liturgies of the Church include reading passages from the Bible on special holy days. On Christmas Eve, for example, Luke 2:1–10 and Hebrews 1:1–12 are read, while on Christmas Day Matthew 1:18–25, 2:1–12, and Galatians 4:4–7 are read. Manuscripts that arrange their passages according to what is read on these holy days are called lectionaries. Among Greek New Testament manuscripts, over 2000 of them—about 40%—are lectionaries. And the traditional passages to be read in these lectionaries reach back for more than 1500 years.”
The work of the CSNTM to discover, catalog and digitally preserve manuscripts of the New Testament excites me deeply, and there’s no better season than Christmas to remember their work with our prayers and financial support.
